SOMBER
it all started with an idea...
The wolf has always been discriminated because of myths and folklore. Ideas that wolves are savage beasts without order have been around for centuries. Wolves have been slaughtered throughout the years because of this misunderstanding, and one day, one wolf, got sick of it. This wolf went by the name of Rylu, and Rylu had an idea...
Humans had structure, faith, and religion. Wolves did not.
Rylu wanted to change that.
In his home, chaos and ill feelings reigned upon the land. Most of this chaos was driven by anger. Anger at the humans. Humans, for so long, have killed their fathers, pups, mothers, and mates, and the chaos never seemed to cease. Here is where Rylu's idea came into action.
"We need order! We need peace! We need faith!" Said Rylu as he stood upon a large rock, the wolves of his home gathering around him. The congregation was silent, so the russet colored wolf continued on.
"The humans, they believe in this man called God. We need something to believe in too. Who created this world, I ask you?" He called loudly. Not one wolf answered. Rylu observed the silence. He took it as an opportunity.
"I'll tell you who!" Rylu growled, then pointed his muzzle to the heavens. "Sheridae!" He called, using the ancient word for "sky". "Erythae" He continued. This word meant "earth". The crowd of wolves looked shocked. Of course! Someone had to have created the earth and sky, right?
"Exactly, my brothers and sisters. It is Sheridae and Erythae that rule us!" Rylu said, his voice echoing across the territory. The wolves did not speak. They only peered up to the sky, and dug their claws into the earth a little harder.
After a long period of silence, a wolf spoke.
"What of the elements? Fire, water, wind, spirit?"
Rylu blinked. He hadn't thought of the elements. Surely, Sheridae and Erythae put the elements here for a reason.
"Fire, xydros. Water, asqua. Wind, zyleph, and Spirit, apparae. The elements are also gods, set upon this land as Sheridae and Erythae's messengers. We must treat them well, appease them. He finally spoke, using the ancient words for the elements.
"Every full moon, a sacrifice will be made to an element. The element will change every moon. This full moon, we shall appease Asqua. Next will be Xydros, Next Zyleph, and last will be Apparae."
The crowd listened, and obeyed as soon at Rylu dismissed them. Every full moon, a sacrifice is made to the Elements, and every year, there is a ceremony to appease Sheridae and Erythae. This once-a-year ceremony is held October 31, the humans' Halloween.
And that is how the wolves of this land became civilized.
Rylu is long dead now, but his decendents still live on, and his traditions live on in the hearts of the many wolves that wander the land today. Today, wolves live far away from human civilization, but many dangers still lurk within the shadows...
